  1. 5. GOVERNANCE

Future Board Development

Apex Care Foundation is committed to building a Board of Trustees that reflects the diversity, expertise and values needed to guide the charity through its next stages of growth.

As a newly established organisation, our initial board has been formed by our founding team. While this structure has provided the strong foundation required to launch the charity, we recognise that as our impact grows, so too must the breadth and depth of our governance.

Our vision is to build a board that is not only legally compliant and strategically capable, but also inclusive, representative and forward-thinking.

Why Board Development Matters

A strong and diverse board ensures:

  • Balanced decision-making and independent oversight

  • Access to a broader range of experiences, perspectives and skills

  • Greater accountability to the communities we serve

  • Increased confidence among donors, regulators and partners

  • Long-term resilience, continuity and succession planning

We believe that inclusive leadership strengthens ethical governance and brings credibility to every aspect of our work.

Our Development Goals

As part of our board development strategy, we aim to:

  • Identify individuals with expertise in charity governance, safeguarding, education, health, finance, legal compliance, community engagement and lived experience

  • Proactively diversify the board in terms of background, identity and geography

  • Strengthen board induction, training and ongoing development

  • Establish clear expectations, term limits and performance review processes

  • Maintain a culture of collaboration, openness and ethical leadership

Recruitment and Inclusion

We are committed to transparent and inclusive recruitment processes that ensure:

  • Trustee roles are advertised publicly

  • Criteria are based on skills, values and potential – not networks or status

  • All candidates are treated fairly and supported during onboarding

  • Lived experience is valued as highly as professional credentials

Our board will remain voluntary and non-executive, with all members bound by charity governance duties and our code of conduct.

Looking Ahead

As Apex Care Foundation evolves, so will our governance needs. We view board development not as a one-time task, but as an ongoing commitment to growth, accountability and excellence.

Building a strong board is about more than structure – it’s about stewardship. With the right trustees in place, we can protect the integrity of our mission and unlock the full potential of the foundation.
